Living in Sant Antoni
Sant Antoni is technically the south-western corner of Eixample but functions as its own barrio. The restored Sant Antoni market (reopened 2018) anchors it, and a wave of small restaurants, vermuterias and natural wine bars has settled around Carrer del Parlament and Comte Borrell. Central enough to walk to Gothic and Raval, calm enough to sleep in. Flats are modernista like the rest of Eixample but generally cheaper than Right Eixample.
What you'll love
- +Best food scene per square metre in the city right now.
- +Central but residential — actual neighbours, not just Airbnbs.
- +Two metro lines and the Sant Antoni bike-share hub.
Worth knowing
- −Weekend brunch queues on Carrer del Parlament.
- −Some blocks closer to Paral·lel feel underwhelming.
- −Slightly less green than Eixample proper.
Food & daily life
The market itself for groceries and the Sunday book fair, then the entire Parlament/Borrell axis for vermut, natural wine and modern tapas.
Who it works for
Couples and solo movers who want to cook, eat out a lot, and stay central.
Good to know before you book
- • A temporary residential lease (32+ days) doesn't require an NIE — your passport is enough.
- • Since the 2023 housing law, agency fees are paid by the landlord, not the tenant.
- • Verified platforms hold your payment in escrow until check-in — no money moves to the landlord until you're in.
- • Barcelona is a stressed rental market: long-term rent increases are capped by index, not free CPI.
